The Anti-Minimalist Muse: Meet Dorothy

Forget the stuffy, traditional horse portraits you see in every hallway in Louisville. This is Dorothy, and she is a masterclass in "Palm Beach meets the Kentucky Derby" - a grand, maximalist tribute to the lady who invented the "Hollywood Regency" look.

Living in Louisville, Kentucky, equestrian art is practically a requirement, but for a long time, it just wasn't me. That changed at 3:00 AM one morning when I woke up with a vision: horses infused with pattern, modern color, and sharp, graphic edges. Dorothy is a result of that creative fever dream - one of only 15 original pieces in the exclusive Preppy Pony Collection.

The Story Behind the Brush

"I wanted this style for my own family room refresh, and once I started, I couldn't stop. I feverishly painted 15 of them, imagining new patterns as fast as I could move the brush. Because these horses are so high-fashion, I named each one after an iconic designer. Dorothy, of course, represents the high-society interior decorator who pioneered the use of exuberant colors and bold, 'over-the-top' prints that refuse to fade into the background."

The Details

Dorothy is an expansive, scene-stealing presence on an oversized 36" x 48" canvas, featuring a sun-drenched lemon and white striped coat. She marches confidently across a sophisticated, multi-colored plaid backdrop of petal pink, sage, and goldenrod, while her statement saddle pad features a dramatic dark chocolate base adorned with minty "polka-dots" and a playful lime-green fringe. Mint green "hooves" finish her look, perfectly capturing the anti-minimalist spirit of her namesake.
